"I saw another angel coming down from heaven...
and the earth was illuminated with his glory."
Revelation 18:1

Story in the Stars

The Bible speaks of the constellations and stars as having been put in place and named by God. It draws attention to them in a way that takes credit for their existence and personifies them, so that we are led to consider their symbolic significance. For example, the word "Mazzaroth," in the book of Job, refers to the twelve major constellations, also known as the zodiac. Verses such as the following indicate they were originally intended to serve as symbols and picture stories:

God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years. Genesis 1:14

He counts the number of the stars and calls them all by names. 5 Great is our Lord and mighty in power, His understanding is infinite. Psalm 147:4-5

"To whom then will you liken me, that I should be his equal?" says the Holy One. 26 "Lift up your eyes on high and see, who created all these and brought out their host by number?" He calls them all by name by the greatness of his might, for he is strong in power. Not one is missing. Isaiah 40:25-26

The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies show his handiwork. 2 Day after day they utter speech, night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language where their voice isn't heard. 4 Their sound has gone out through all the earth and their words to the ends of the inhabited world.... Psalm 19:1-4

Can You bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? 32 Can you bring out the Mazzaroth in their seasons? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs? 33 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their dominion in the earth? Job 38:31-33

Seek him that made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns the shadow of death into morning and makes the day grow dark into night. He calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the face of the earth. HWHY is his name. Amos 5:8

The stories of redemption and the cosmic battle between good and evil are written in the stars. Knowledge of this was likely passed down through generations since time began on Earth and was thus perverted into astrology, which is a spiritually dangerous practice the Bible warns against. These heavenly symbolisms were put in place by a loving Creator who knew people on Earth would not always have access to God's written Word.
